The MAGIK SWORD: A Multi-Purpose Sketch, Ink & Watercolor Brush for Procreate + 2 MAGIK BONUS Brushes + FREE Updates!

The MAGIK SWORD is an awesome new multi-purpose brush with an adaptive brush tip and seamless paper texture. It was designed using the new Procreate 4 brush features and works for sketching and inking as well as a marker brush. With a little practice, you can also use it for watercolor painting and super smooth gradient shading! Enjoy painting without messing up the texture as it may happen with other blending/smudge tools.

I designed this versatile brush for the great Nicholas Kole, who kindly invited me to recreate his favorite "Magic Sword" PhotoShop brush in Procreate. 

The MAGIK SWORD is part of my XMAS 2017 Brush Set and also included in the XMAS MegaPack update (#26, version 16.0). Since some of you asked me to publish the MAGIK SWORD as a stand-alone brush, here it is together with 2 alternate versions! 

[update Dec 24th, 2017]: As a little Christmas treat, I added 3 free BONUS brushes, which are also inspired by Nicholas' work. 😊

You'll get:

• The MAGIK SWORD: A paper-textured sketch and marker/watercolor brush with a hard and a soft edge. Use pen tilt to create really soft gradients with your brush strokes.
  
• The MAGIK SABLE: A variant of the MAGIK SWORD with a narrow brush tip. This is Nicholas preferred brush version.
  
• The MAGIK SWORD OVAL: The oval-shaped brush tip follows your strokes. Gradient orientation is controlled by stroke direction.
• The Nicholas Kole MS 09 (alternate beta version of the MAGIK SWORD)

BONUS Brushes

• The MAGIK SPEAR: A multi-purpose sketch and ink brush with a rough wet paper texture, nice dynamics, and a natural flow. Use pen tilt for blocking forms and shading.
• The MAGIK LANCE: This ink brush with varying line width is based on my popular Kolinsky ink and paint brush series. I added some extras like dynamic opacity and brush hair patterns that become gradually visible when you apply strong pressure and/or use a low pen tilt angle.
  
• The MAGIK SHIELD: A flexible chisel-tip shading and soft wet paintbrush with a subtle paper texture. Use pen tilt, low opacity, and low pressure for smooth shading and soft color transitions.

How to use the MAGIK SWORD Brush:

• Use it with small brush tip sizes and high opacity for sketching and inking.
  
• Choose a bigger brush tip size for painting and shading. Adjust opacity depending on your painting style and color intensity.
  

The Magik Sword has a hard and a soft edge, which makes it great for nuanced coloring and shading.

• Rotate canvas to adjust the hard/soft edge orientation. (The brush tip is set to follow “Azimuth” angle.)
  
• Use pen tilt to create brush strokes with a smooth gradient: The lower the tilt angle the softer the gradient.
  
• Control brush size and opacity using pen pressure and stroke speed.

• Remove grain or reduce jitter if you prefer a cleaner line art.

• Play with opacity, try out pressure, tilt and speed sensitivity to use my brushes to their full potential.
